The Richland Public Library relies on the support of our community to make our library a friendly, efficient, and effective public service. There are many different ways a volunteer can contribute to our library operation. Below are the work groups that accept volunteer contributions.
Friends of the Library is our support organization that operates book sale services to fund select library initiatives. This primarily involves assisting in operating the book sale room and our twice annual book sale events.
Community Engagement plans and facilitates our public programs and outreach. Contributing to this group may include craft preparation, program setup and take down, assisting in program execution, and maintaining library displays.
Technical Services handles much of the collection work needed for our library to operate. Contributing to this group may include mending books and cleaning DVDs, shelf reading to identify misplaced items, withdrawing library materials, receiving new materials, keeping our serial collection current, using reports to locate and pull items on our shelves, and shelving returned items.
User Experience maintains the patron experience in the library. Contributing to this group may include receiving and sorting returned material through our automatic book handler, maintaining a clean and uncluttered library environment, assisting patrons in finding library materials, using reports to locate and pull items on our shelves, and shelving returned items.
Therapy Dogs support our early literacy programming by sharing a collection of friendly dogs for kids to read to. Therapy dog volunteers must be registered with an official therapy dog organization, such as Go Team Therapy Dogs, and be able to verify this registration along with their dog's vaccination records.
